Defensive end Aidan Hutchinson of the Detroit Lions was taken off the field during Sunday’s third-quarter game between the Lions and Dallas Cowboys.
After sacking Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott on a second-down play, Hutchinson left the field. Prescott was being tackled by Hutchinson when it looked like his left leg slid into someone else’s.
A replay of the injury was not shown in the Fox broadcast because Fox felt it was too graphic. Before Hutchinson could be taken off the field, he was there for a few minutes. As he was brought to the locker room, players from both teams crowded around him.
Hutchinson had emergency surgery for a fractured tibia at a hospital in the Dallas region, according to Lions coach Dan Campbell.
With 6 sacks going into the game, Hutchinson led the NFL in sacks.
Hutchinson was chosen second overall by the Lions in the NFL draft of 2022. In his first two seasons with Detroit, he amassed 21 sacks.
